Silver Peak Trail

Silver Peak Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"From the parking area you can see the highest point on the western horizon, Silver Peak, your destination. The view from that point is magnificent, but the journey to get there is no less spectacular. This tread is deteriorating and provides challenging but enjoyable hiking. Turnout promontories provide respite from the steep ascent, and panoramic views. The area is used by cattle, but there is also evidence of wild burros being in the valley. Don ’t be surprised to see either species."

Nice hike. The car camping spot is fantastic. Dog owners beware - this hike is "infested" with jumping cholla. By the end of the trip, Lupe, my mutt, was a pro at getting cholla out of her paws. The drive back out was a bit tricky for me, as there were many more roads veering off than I'd seen on the way in. I took the wrong fork several times and had to do some hairy 3-point turns. Overall, it was a very nice introduction to the Mojave National Preserve.
