Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Finding the campground: From the intersection of CA 58 and Irwin Road in Barstow, drive north on Irwin for 5.5 miles to Fossil Bed Road. Turn left and drive 3 miles northwest.

About the campground: Owl Canyon is situated in Rainbow Basin Natural Area. While hiking or horseback riding, it is possible to find the exposed fossils of ancient mammals, but their removal is prohibited. Colorful rock formations and badlands topography add to the camping experience. Stay limit fourteen days. Open all year."
