Whitewater Canyon Professional Review and Guide

"The Whitewater River is the largest waterway between the Mojave and Colorado Rivers. The Wildlands Conservancy has established an outstanding nature preserve in the river canyon at the site of the former Whitewater Trout Farm. This trip explores the desert and river along a short segment of the Pacific Crest Trail"

"The Whitewater River is the primary watercourse draining the south and east sides of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Its frothing waters tumble down the mountain and rush across the desert before sinking into the sands near Palm Springs. The
Wildlands Conservancy acquired the historic Whitewater Trout Farm in 2006 to prevent it from becoming a housing development.

The canyon and many others are now within the Sand to Snow National Monument designated by President Barack Obama in 2016, and Whitewater Preserve is one of the best places to experience the desert glory of the monument. This trip explores a short stretch of the canyon, brie?y joins the Paci?c Crest Trail (PCT), and follows a ridge with good views before returning to the canyon."

"The Whitewater River is the biggest river between the Mojave and the Colorado. It pours out of the San Bernardino Mountains and flows through Palm Springs before emptying into the Salton Sea. The river cuts a spectacular canyon down the southeast side of San Gorgonio. This hike starts at The Wildlands Conservancy’s Whitewater Preserve and follows the PCT up to a ridge where there are great views of the canyon. It then descends the ridge and returns along the river’s wide wash."
