Wild Horse Mesa

Wild Horse Mesa Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This rigorous, trail-less route leads very experienced desert hikers to one of the most remote and unique places in Mojave National Preserve; on clear days, 100-mile vistas unfold. In the south-central reaches of Mojave National Preserve, between the limestone crags of the Providence Mountains and the granite ramparts of the Mid Hills, rises the 8-square-mile volcanic tableland of Wild Horse Mesa. This mesa is seemingly out of place among the profoundly eroded mountain ranges and broad valleys of the eastern Mojave Desert, and its landscape is more reminiscent of the canyon country of the Desert Southwest. This demanding cross-country hike, recommended for very experienced desert hikers only, follows the precipitous gorge of Saddle Horse Canyon to the volcanic rim of the mesa. Vistas from the mesa rim are panoramic, stretching far to the east into Arizona."
