North Mid Hills Trail

North Mid Hills Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike traces the northern half of the Mid Hills Trail, one of only three constructed trails in the preserve, along the eastern slopes of the granite-studded Mid Hills. Near the center of Mojave National Preserve, and connecting the New York Mountains in the northeast with the Providence Mountains in the southwest, are the Mid Hills. Their name is misleading, however, since the Mid Hills are really more like mountains than hills. Prominent granite peaks rising nearly 6,000 feet punctuate the crest, and the higher terrain supports well-developed woodlands ofpiñon and juniper. Linking Mid Hills Campground in the north with Hole-in-the-Wall in the south is the 8.5-mile Mid Hills Trail. This is one of only three constructed trails in the preserve, and it is arguably the most scenic. This trip leads you on an up-and-down course for 3.6 miles to a broad saddle on a granite ridge high above Gold Valley where far-ranging vistas unfold."
