Hole-in-the-Wall to Mid Hills Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Although more difficult, a south-to-north route on this trail, mostly uphill, is recommended for several reasons. First, if you leave during the morning —which you should certainly do given the length of the hike — you’ll have the sun at your back rather than in your face, a definite plus during the warmer months. Second, by climbing up into the higher desert one can better appreciate subtle changes in vegetation and geology in this varied land. But perhaps the best reason is that you will better enjoy the fantastic volcanic geology of Banshee Canyon by dropping into it when fresh early in the day, rather than the other way around. Significantly, this trail is one of only two official trails in the entire preserve."
