"The West Fork of the San Gabriel River is a wonderful little trout stream located just 30 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. While it is not open to vehicles, a paved road paralleling the river offers anglers easy access by foot or mountain bike. Flowing from Cogswell Reservoir, the San Gabriel is a tailwater fishery that boasts many trout per mile. Its narrow streambed consists of a succession of pools, riffles, runs, and pocket waters. In short, this is a classic Southern California trout stream. Types of Fish: Rainbow and brown trout. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area.
