A high, forested mountain reservoir with campgrounds only 9 miles from the Sierra Crest. Scattered around the lake are four family campgrounds, two group campgrounds, hiking trails, sandy shorelines, and two boat-launching ramps. Depending on snow conditions, they are usually open from June to October. Since a state game refuge surrounds the entire reservoir, no firearms are permitted. Placer County Water Agency completed French Meadows Reservoir for water supply and power generation. Tahoe National Forest manages this concession-operated fee area.
