"Heilman Regional Park encompasses 315 acres with equestrian and hiking trails. The Jim Green Trail is accessed from the northern end of the park. The trail loops around the contours of the hillsides to scenic overlooks of Chalk Mountain Golf Course, the Salinas River and the surrounding mountains. The path weaves through groves of oak trees draped with strands of hanging moss."

great family walk went with my 4 year old and he did it no problem. also good for mountain biking and horses, coll lookout bench about half way that looks over the golf course. quick n easy but nice
This is a nice walking/exercise trail with pleasant scenery for nearby residents or visitors, but nothing spectacular. It's excellent for keeping in shape during those "in between hikes" times, as it has several steep sections and is by no means just a level "park walk" trail. This is a shared trail with mountain bikes and equestrians, so it's wise to keep alert for the occasional biker who gets careless. Dodging piles of horse manure is a regular activity, especially after a weekend, though I've noticed some starting to take responsibility and clean up the trail(!) Dogs are allowed and prevalent on the trail, so it can get somewhat smelly in areas where dog owners don't clean up after themselves. There is some wildlife here, mostly seen in early morning when it's cool and before the dogs come. By adding in a partial loop near the center (the cutoffs are easily seen) you can make this a 1.6 or 2.3 mile trail, or a few other variations over different paths near the summit.
