Humphreys Basin Trail

Humphreys Basin Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Reserve your wilderness permits early for a trek to this popular High Sierran basin. Part of the hike is on the busy Piute Pass Trail and part of the hike is on sketchy boot-beaten paths or unmarked cross-country routes over the open hills. Walk softly, staying on rocks whenever possible, and carry a detailed map to help you navigate between the many lakes and vistas scattered through Humphreys Basin. This is a high-elevation hike, and it is best to spend the night before you start walking at either North Lake Campground or Sabrina Campground to let your body acclimate. Thunderstorms come up very quickly, and Piute Pass and the basin are very exposed. Be prepared at all times for changing weather; it may even snow!"
