Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The loop through the west side of Annadel State Park is a scenic hike that samples many of the best features found in the state park, including a deep canyon, large meadows, and Lake Ilsanjo. The western entrance is less frequently used but provides access to some of Annadel’s popular landmarks. Rising like a green- and- gold wall above the east side of Santa Rosa, the highlands of Annadel State Park form a natural barrier to the city. The park is the northernmost extension of the Sonoma Mountains, a mountain range composed of volcanic debris. Straddling the divide between the Santa Rosa Plain and the Sonoma Valley, the park consists mostly of a large plateau that is covered in a patchwork of large meadows, forested areas, and patches of chaparral."
