"Santa Clara Divide Road begins east of Santa Clarita on paved Sand Canyon Road. Initially, the road climbs along a single-lane, paved road toward Magic Mountain. There is no longer vehicle access to the top of the mountain; the road is gated shut by the forest service. As the route travels across the top of the ridge, the surface alternates between graded dirt and sections that were once paved and are now falling into disrepair. At North Fork Saddle there is a national forest station. Although it is not open to the public, it has an information board and a selection of informational leaflets on the region. The picnic ground next to it is a pleasant place for a rest stop for those traveling the trail. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail comes up from Soledad Canyon at this point, and its path roughly follows the Santa Clara Divide Road to its finishing point on Angeles Forest Highway. Special Attractions: Long ridge top trail within the San Gabriel Mountains suitable for passenger vehicles in dry weather; Intersects with other trails that lead down from the ridge. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any)." Read more

The trip was a no go! i was so disappointed. as soon as you find the Santa Clara Divide Road there is a gate that is locked and restricts access to it. I also tried the Pacific Crest trail that is close by but that one too is closed for public use.
