Deer Canyon Park Preserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Deer Canyon Park is a little-known 103-acre wilderness tucked in the canyon between the heavily developed hills. This Anaheim city park receives little maintenance and has taken on a charmingly wild feel.

The slopes are covered in native sage scrub, which blooms in the spring, and the stream is lined with sycamores, oaks, willows, mulefat, and cottonwoods. The canyon is a refuge for coyotes, rabbits, deer, and other animals squeezed by urban development."

"Residents mostly identify themselves as living in “Anaheim Hills,” as opposed to Anaheim, though according to postal authorities the name is not accepted for use as an official mailing address. Nature lovers point with pride at parks and preserves in and around the hills and claim that about thirty percent of the land is protected in park and open space reserves. The consensus by residents and visitors alike is that this breathing room makes the hill country different in appearance and in vibe from other parts of Orange County. These parklands are all the more valuable in contrast to the fast-paced developments in the hills, with new neighborhoods extending toward the Riverside County line." Read more
