The Summit Trail: Pepperdine Trailhead to Patterson Lake (Backpacking) Professional Review and Guide
"A narrow, linear range trending north-south, the South Warner Mountains are more similar in nature to mountain ranges in the Great Basin to the east than to those in the Golden State. Another dissimilarity to many other California mountain ranges is a lack of people—thanks to its remote setting in the extreme northeastern part of the state, you may not see another soul during this trip. On clear days, 100-mile vistas from this crest-hugging trail are quite common, stretching from the high desert of southern Oregon and northwestern Nevada to the Cascade summits of Mt. Shasta, Lassen Peak, and beyond. Patterson Lake is a cirque-bound, scenic body of water providing a destination worthy of the most discriminating backpacker."
