San Gabriel Peak Trail

Altadena, California

San Gabriel Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The trail is covered in manzanita and chaparral, but it is well maintained and gently ascends the entire distance to the peak. San Gabriel Peak, like many other geographical features in Southern California, was named for the mission in the valley below, founded by the Spanish padres, which also carries the same appellation.

The mountain has had other designations throughout historic and prehistoric times, but this is the one that has stuck. Carrying the distinction of being the second-highest peak in the front range of the Angeles National Forest, its pointy prominence is visible and recognizable from almost anywhere in Los Angeles."
