Perkinsville Road Scenic Drive: Williams to Jerome Professional Review and Guide
"A 47-mile-long road that runs south from Williams across the
pine-covered Mogollon Rim, drops into the scenic Verde River Valley, and climbs up an old railroad grade to the old mining camp of Jerome."
--Stewart M. Green, Scenic Driving Arizona (Falcon Guides).
Drove this road yesterday, Apr 12 2008. Took the side road to White Horse Lake and Sycamore Point. Sycamore Point is a great overlook to Sycamore Canyon. Viewing Sycamore Canyon you can imagine what Oak Creek Canyon would be like with no houses, no roads, no power lines - only the canyon. Back on Perkinsville Road, the scenery reminded me very much of the area west of Santa Fe, NM, beautiful high desert plateau with lots of Pinion and Juniper. After crossing the Verde, the drive into Jerome was beautiful and amazingly uncrowded for a Saturday. I would highly recommend this drive.
