This is an easy, pleasant walk through the pine forest along the Dogtown Lake shore. The small mountain town is surrounded by the ponderosa pine forests of Kaibab National Forest, which offers many enjoyable hikes. Extinct volcanoes and cinder cones, steep-sided, symmetrically shaped volcanoes formed when magma under high pressure erupts explosively, relieve the otherwise flat surface of the plateau; the hikes described in this section take advantage of these features.
