Benson and Willcox Professional Review and Guide
"Today Benson is emerging as a suburb of Tucson. Surrounded by natural beauty, the immediate area offers a wealth of things to see and do. The museum is a jewel. A privately funded center for archaeological field research, the center also houses a museum and art gallery dedicated to archaeological and ethnographical material on Indians from all the Americas. The gallery contains a superb collection of western, Native American, and American art. Often called the “Gateway to the Chiricahua Wonderland,” Willcox is rich with Native American lore. Here the U.S. Cavalry battled the Chiricahua Apaches. Many sites commemorate various skirmishes. This is the country of Cochise, the legendary Apache chief who stalked and struck deep in the valleys and then faded back into the shadowy mountains. This land was holy to all Apaches."
