Red Butte Professional Review and Guide
"An easy hike to a unique geologic feature. The trail heads up the west slopes of the butte in a series of switchbacks, reaching a shoulder before climbing the summit knob. The small summit plateau is open and the view is good in all directions. A fire-lookout building stands at the northeast edge. If the lookout is staffed, be sure to ask permission before climbing up. Red Butte is formed primarily from reddish Moenkopi sandstone, which is younger than any of the rocks that form the Grand Canyon."
