A day loop through Tucson Mountain Regional Park. Jagged peaks rise all around, their reddish beds of volcanic rhyolite reaching to craggy heights above older and more crumbly beds of metamorphic stone. The low country is vegetated in a rich bajada community that features saguaro and cholla cacti, ocotillo, and palo verde. The Yetman trail meets the Golden Gate trail at the top of the pass, and fine views extend southward along the Tucson Mountains. Cat Mountain dominates the southern reaches of the range, while a sprawling trailer park crowds the southern boundary of the park.

There is an extensive trail system and very little of it is marked. We intended on a 4-hour horseback ride and ended up being lost, which resulted in a 6.5 hour ride. If it was not for bicyle riders who knew the area, we would have been out there a lot longer. Would not recommend!
