Although administratively separate, the Rincon Mountain Wilderness and Saguaro National Park East encompass the same terrain in the Rincon Mountains rising above the Tucson Valley’s eastern margin. Treating each independently would be repetitive and confusing. To avoid that, I have decided in this book to combine them into a single unit, here referred to as Saguaro Wilderness East. This trail guide covers an area with 77 miles of trails.

The trail starts out up a picturesque steambed for 1and 1/2 mile to the saguaro east gate. You start to climb rapidly into the park and the views are fantastic. we went another 1 and 1/2 miles, but you could go the the top and spend all day. One small group were backpacking over night
