This is a scenic loop over Mica Mountain, the highest summit in the Rincon Mountains, starting from the east side of the range. A permit is required; it can be obtained in person at the Saguaro National Park Rincon Visitor Center or in advance by mail. Backpackers are required to camp at the designated campsites in the park backcountry. From the trailhead, follow the Miller Creek Trail northwest up Miller Creek toward the impressive eastern slopes of the Rincon Mountains. The gentle ascent comes to an end after about a mile, when the trail veers west and starts climbing more steeply.
