Belmont Mountain

Belmont Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"A remote, high-desert, mountainous area with many old mining roads. Very scenic when viewed from high vantage points. Stay clear of open vertical mine shafts and never enter mines."

More Belmont Mountain Professional Reviews and Guides

"See the Tonopah/Belmont Mine high in the Sonoran Desert. Visit Vulture Mine—a rare opportunity to see a well-preserved gold mine and ghost town. Henry Wickenburg discovered the mine in 1863 and sold it for $100,000.

This turned out to be a big mistake. It became one of the richest gold mines in Arizona and didn’t shut down until 1942. The mine is now a commercial tourist attraction. Sandy washes and mild desert climbs. Steep and rocky just before Belmont Mine. Suitable for high-clearance stock SUVs."

Beautiful, wild country. Relatively easy trail with lots of interesting stops at old cabins and mines

very scenic route, the ghost town wasnt that great, but otherwise we had a good time. It wasnt a old west ghost town or anything, just a bunch of trailers and mining equipment, some metal shacks, that sort of thing. Area is very scenic, saw a mountain lion, as long as your not going to see the mine you wont be dissapointed.
