This difficult trail will provide an exciting challenge to an experienced driver with a good stock vehicle. Although the trail is short, you should allow two hours to complete it. After leaving the intersection with Martinez Mine Trail, the trail immediately reveals its challenges. A large boulder, 0.4 miles from the start of the trail, has to be negotiated. This obstacle is easier to overcome than it first appears. Most vehicles will climb over it with little trouble—just watch long overhangs. The entire trail is rocky and lumpy, and there are a couple of steep ascents and descents, made harder by the very loose surface and rock ledges. Special Attractions: Historic Cochran Coke Ovens; Provides easier access to the coke ovens than Cochran Coke Ovens Trail; Spectacular gorge and ridge top desert scenery; Access to many popular backcountry trails. Skilled, experienced four-wheel drivers only. This trail includes very challenging sections with extremely steep grades, loose surfaces, large rocks, deep ruts, and/or tight clearances. Mud or sand may necessitate winching.
