The route follows Forest Service Road 545A past the Bonito Lava Flow within Sunset Crater National Monument, and then up the slopes of O’Leary Peak to terminate near the fire lookout tower on top of the mountain. Along the way are splendid examples of volcanic geology underfoot and scenic vistas all about. Go on a clear day and take a good camera.
