Follow a section of the Arizona Trail to the top of Mount Peeley, a 7,034-foot peak in the Mazatzal Mountains. Superb scenery from the summit and along the trail rewards hikers, while the high elevation keeps temperatures relatively mild on hot summer days.

I did this trail as part of a local race. There are no prolonged climbs but the terrain is rugged and you'll get your workout. In many places, the trail is hard to follow. You will need to keep a sharp eye out for the trail and, at times, use a little imagination to get to where you can see the trail pick up in the distance. Very little traffic and nice views of the empty eastern coastline of Bartlett Lake make this a nice escape.
