A long day loop that visits the crest of the Huachuca Range. The trailhead is only open from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., and all hikers must carry a permit that is available free of charge at the Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve headquarters. The upper reaches of Ramsey Canyon are nesting habitat for the rare eared trogon, and hikers are asked to wear muted colors to avoid disturbing these birds while passing through their territories. In addition to the rich assemblage of birds found here, visitors may encounter Coues white-tailed deer, black bears, and even troops of coatis.
