The Brown Canyon Trail is a local cycling favorite. Not deadly hard but not a creampuff ride either, Brown Canyon Trail begins with a fairly steep grind up a gravel road. It’s only a mile and a half, but you’ll gain several hundred feet in elevation. After a short road descent, the route reaches a water crossing (there’s only water in this crossing during the spring) and a stock tank (there’s always water in the tank, but it’s unsafe to drink). The two-plus mile descent down Brown Canyon Trail proper is the real treat. Except for the very steep, very challenging climb to return to the lot, the work-to-fun ratio is such that this ride deserves multiple laps. Trail Surface: A mix of pavement, gravel road, doubletrack, rugged jeep road, and singletrack.
