Wilson Mountain, like other high points in the Sedona area, offers a wonderful vantage point from which to enjoy the surrounding red rock terrain. The Wilson Mountain Trail runs mostly within the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness and was designated as a National Recreation Trail in 1979. For the ?rst 0.5 mile or so, the trail climbs quickly to gain a ridge just east of Wilson Canyon. This is followed by a stretch of easier grades as the route continues north and approaches the base of the mountain. The terrain along this stretch is dry, open desert. Scattered pinyon pine, juniper, manzanita, agave, yucca, and bear grass are common, but shade is not.
