This hike is a great alternative to the crowded West Fork Trail, and it’s located right across the highway. There are excellent views of the West Fork of Oak Creek, and of Oak Creek Canyon itself. Here, because of the increased temperature and evaporation, the chaparral plants dominate: scrub oak, mountain mahogany, and manzanita. There are fine views down the canyon to the flat-topped mesa of Wilson Mountain.
