Towering red rock buttes set against a backdrop of deep-green forest and clear blue sky make this road one of Arizona’s most photogenic. The road climbs over 2,200 feet from Sedona to the top of massive Mogollon Rim. Memorable hiking trails depart from several places along the road, and dispersed camping is allowed above Vista Point. The drive is impressive in either direction. Elk may be seen before sunset. Mountain bikers looking for an easy day will enjoy the ride down. If you park, hike, or stop along the route, you’ll need a Red Rocks Pass. Signs recommend only trucks or off-highway vehicles, but cars (not low-slung) can make it in good weather. Although the road is wide and well-maintained, expect a bumpy ride. Much of the lower portion is a shelf road. This road is closed during the winter.

great road with interesting history. very fun with great views. not a lot of traffic but you will see other vehicles, ATV's, and motorcycles. fairly easy trip for decent 4WD vehicles.

Great weather and beautiful drive. Easy drive in a lifted 4wd vehicle. Friend with 2wd passenger van had no issues. crowded on the Sedona side with Pink Jeep and other tours. Dude with brand new Range Rover Sport thought it was an off road speed test track... Great drive!

Excellent trail. Lots of senic views, took plenty of pictures. Rock hikes from the lookouts were great. Lots of tour trafic, and 4 wheel drive recommended. We drove the entire 12 miles from Sedona to I 17. If I had it to do over, I would drive 1/2 way to Schnebly Vista, then turn around and drive back down. Overall the trip was enjoyable for the entire family.
