Schnebly Hill Professional Review and Guide
"Just east of Sedona. Scenic ride through red rock formations and interesting geology to the Mogollon Rim, and a viewpoint overlooking Sedona and lower Oak Creek Canyon."
--Bruce Grubbs, Mountain Biking Flagstaff and Sedona (Falcon Guides).
This was a great ride. A bit frustrating at the start. The Forest Service Parking Permitt machine was not working when I was there. But other than that, I could not have asked for better weather conditions. 80 degree high and slight breezes. I did the ride in 3 hours 14 minutes moving time. I took a water break every half hour. Bring plenty of water, I used two Camelbacks on the trip. Be careful coming back down the mountain. Remember you're dropping from 6500 to 4700 in a distance of 5 miles.
I don't know how true this is but I was told, Schnebly was the post-master for the Oak Creek area. His wife was named Sedona. Eveidently Schnebly was a Pioneer.
I will do this one again.
Combine with the Oak Creek area, and 89A, and it is very unique. I had so much fun, I ran out of water, and that doesn't happen very often.
THE SEDONA AREA IS COOL.
