North Wilson Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This is a good hike on a hot day since much of the trail is in a north-facing, shady canyon in the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness. You’ll have excellent views of Oak Creek Canyon from the First Bench of Wilson Mountain. The trail starts climbing immediately through mixed chaparral, ponderosa-pine, and oak forest. When the trail reaches the ridge above the picnic area, it turns to the south and follows the ridge a short distance, giving you good views of Oak Creek Canyon. After leaving the ridge the trail climbs southwest up a heavily wooded drainage. The shade of the large ponderosa pines is a welcome relief on hot days. As the trail nears the base of the massive, buff-colored Coconino sandstone cliffs, it crosses the drainage and begins to switchback up the slope to the east. There are more fine views when the trail reaches the ridge at the top of this slope."
