A scenic hike up a red-rock canyon to the Mogollon Rim in the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness. Initially the trail skirts the Hancock Ranch along the ranch’s east boundary. After passing the ranch the trail then joins the dry creek bed, which it follows northward through the open pinyon-pine, juniper, and Arizona-cypress forest. Conical Loy Butte looms to the west, and the cliffs of Secret Mountain tower over Loy Canyon on the east. After 2.1 miles the canyon becomes narrower, and the trail turns slightly toward the northeast. In another mile the trail turns toward the east as the canyon opens up a bit. The buff-colored Coconino sandstone cliffs of the Mogollon Rim tower above the trail to the north, and matching cliffs form the north end of Secret Mountain. This scenic spot makes a good stopping point for those hikers who desire an easy hike.
