Long Canyon Professional Review and Guide
"Long Canyon is located in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness. This short box canyon is concentrated with red rock sculptures, cliffs and spires. Maroon Mountain towers above the trail to the north, while Mushroom Rock sits to the south. At the back of the canyon are dramatic red cliffs and ancient Indian ruins. From the parking area, walk up the closed jeep road. At 0.3 miles is an old jeep road junction—stay to the left. Continue another 0.3 miles to a gate. The jeep road becomes a footpath. Continue to the next junction one mile from the trailhead. The left fork leads to Boynton Canyon along Deadmans Pass Trail. Take the right fork towards Long Canyon. At this point, you are in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness Area. As you enter the canyon, the cypress trees offer welcome shade."

My wife, our two daughters (8 and 6) and myself took this hike today. We actually started from Deadmans Pass and came over to Long Canyon trail and continued along. It was great weather and the scenery was spectacular. The trail is relatively flat with a couple of small climbs that are over with quickly. If you are looking for something different from Boynton Canyon then this is a welcome hike. You cross through several different terrains and the observant will notice even the Cyprus differs from one area to the next. Definitely put this hike on your to do list.
