Huckaby Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Once your dog is watered and leashed (pack in water, since access to ak Creek is nearly 2 miles away), head left from the fee station to set out on the Huckaby Trail 161. The footpath is predominantly made up of lightly packed red dirt with occasional stretches of loose rock and a short, sandy stretch near the creek— overall, a pleasant walking surface for you and your dog.
A highly scenic oak woodland landscape adorns the deep russet hills and canyons. Look for crucifixion thorn, yuccas, prickly pears, scrub oaks, agaves, manzanitas, locoweed, and fillaree, as well as junipers, Arizona cypress, sycamores, and cottonwoods. Shade is intermittent except in early morning and at creekside, so if you cannot start early plan on plenty of water breaks and let your dog soak in all the shade that is available."
