This is one of the few trails along Oak Creek itself. Although short, it’s an easy, pleasant walk. It’s especially fine in the fall when the colors are changing. In this area, the red rocks near the creek are shales, sandstones and limestones of the Supai formation. The Supai begins to outcrop here and forms the inner gorge of Oak Creek Canyon below this point. These mixed rock formations resulted from a fluctuating near-shore marine environment, in which deep sea limestones were laid down alternately with shallow water shale and sandstones.
