Boxed by mountains and surrounded by wilderness, Fourmile Canyon Campground serves as a terrific base to explore some of Arizona’s lesser-known natural treasures. Turn off Pinal Highway (US 70) and onto Klondyke Road. Gravel crunches under your tires as you cross ridged and crumpled badlands between the Pinaleños and Santa Theresa mountains, then descend to the grassy floor of lower Aravaipa Canyon to meet Bonita-Klondyke Road. Two hopeful prospectors just back from the Yukon gold rush named the town of Klondyke. Although it never yielded the riches of its Canadian namesake, nearby mines dug enough copper, silver, and lead to support more than 500 people.
