Unlike the village on Black Mountain, the ruin along Tonto Creek does not have a large number of rooms. Instead, the site’s main attraction is a single oval-shaped room about 23 yards long. With an intact wall all the way around that stands 4 feet high in some spots, you may find the great rock structure to be more intriguing by itself than the Black Mountain pueblo in its entirety. At many other archaeological sites in Arizona, large rooms like this have been interpreted as ceremonial chambers. You’ll also find a few smaller rooms around the site and a smattering of walls that don’t appear to form any rooms at all.
