A lesson in desert ecology featuring several microclimates, a history lesson on the Salado people, and an archaeology lesson, this educational trip to the upper cliff dwellings at Tonto National Monument has it all. The hike and scenic views aren’t bad either.

This is a challenging hike that is worth every minute of it. It's an out and back that you start to lose interest in after about 4 miles. The 4 in and 4 out are beautiful with totally different views.
