Tonto National Monument-Upper Cliff Dwellings Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A lesson in desert ecology featuring several microclimates, a history lesson on the Salado people, and an archaeology lesson, this educational trip to the Upper Cliff Dwelling at Tonto National Monument has it all. The hike and views aren’t bad either.
Leave extra early for this trip, because it requires a considerable amount of time to navigate the twisting mountain roads of the very scenic Apache Trail. Arriving at the Tonto National Monument visitor center, check in with the rangers to make sure you can get on this exclusive tour. They allow only 15 people per day to visit the Upper Cliff Dwelling, and the tour is available only three days a week between November and April.
Dogs are not allowed."
