This hike near Lake Roosevelt marches up Cottonwood Canyon, wandering back and forth between three different vegetation zones (upper Sonoran, transition scrub, and riparian). After climbing the Canyon, the trail follows a forest road up the slopes and then reenters the upper Canyon to access a truly remarkable stand of riparian hardwoods. This route is part of the Arizona Trail, which runs from Mexico to Utah. Do not confuse this with Cottonwood Trail 256 near Cave Creek. Features: Three different vegetation zones, box cal3Von, horse corral, riparian glades, part of the Arizona Trail (AZT).
