This is an enjoyable loop hike on Mingus Mountain, with views of Prescott Valley. The hike starts on the Little Yaeger Canyon Trail, which begins from the southeast side of the parking area. Several switchbacks lead through pinyon-juniper forest to the top of a gentle ridge, where ponderosa pine begin to take over. The trail climbs more gradually through a small saddle and meets the Allen Spring Road from the trailhead. Turn left and walk down the road 0.2 mile to the Yaeger Cabin Trail (Forest Trail 111) and turn left. Still in pine and oak forest, the Yaeger Cabin Trail drops slightly as it traverses a side canyon of Little Yaeger Canyon and then begins to work its way up the head of the canyon. Sometimes there is water in the bed of the canyon near its head. The trail comes out onto a pine flat on the southwest ridge of Mingus Mountain.

There are some spectacular views of this trail as you'll see from our photos. However, while it is rated as moderate let me just say that there are some tough places. There are locations with lot of loose aggregate. You definitely want to be in decent shape and wear sunscreen. Also, bring along plenty of water and food. Finally, the trail guide says that it is a 6 mile hike. It's not, it's 8.5 miles round trip according to two gps devices we were carrying. With a small break for lunch and a couple of breaks along the way it took us 5.5 hours to hike the trail.
