This is an enjoyable loop over the summit of Pine Mountain, on the Verde Rim in the Pine Mountain Wilderness. Pine Mountain is a small wilderness area astride the Verde Rim. It offers super views of the Mazatzal Wilderness and the wild Verde River country south of Camp Verde. A power line corridor is the only non-wilderness feature separating the two areas. This loop hike circumnavigates the higher western portion of the Pine Mountain Wilderness. Numerous wildfires have burned parts of the backcountry over the years, and you will encounter evidence of these fires on most of the trails. Expect to see downed trees across the trail periodically.
