The rugged peaks and rolling desert of Phoenix’s North Mountain Park once served as a popular campground for Indian School students and their families. The north central Phoenix area has changed, but the park remains a beautiful destination. While this hiking-only trail is within one of the least traveled parks in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve system you should follow the leash rules both out of courtesy for other hikers and for your dog’s protection, since some segments of the hike pass through areas with abundant, albeit urban-adapted, wildlife.
