The trail starts at general springs cabin area (the intersection of FR300) and drops down off the rim. It's a tiny bit rough hiking down. You make a U-Turn in short order and go back up a particularly steep trail up the face of the rim. It's almost climbing, but in short time you are there. Beautiful views and the tunnel resembles a cave more than anything. Nice hike, but it's a workout!
