This easy hike crosses Tonto Creek, following Bear Flats Trail over a couple of hills. It then splits off to travel along Mescal Ridge in the eastern end of the Hell's Gate Wilderness Area. Along the way, it provides splendid views of the Mogollon Rim, Pleasant Valley, and the canyons of the Hell's Gate Wilderness. This little-known route is still easy to follow and provides a quick scenic hike without the crowds found across the highway on the rim. OUTSTANDING FEATURES: Views of Pleasant Valley and Hell's Gate Wilderness, cowboy ruins.
