Canyon Creek Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"During the summer of 2002 a forest fire swept through the lower sections of Canyon Creek, destroying the large trees and grasses and killing most if not all of the trout that lived there. A biologist as well as most of the anglers I have talked to estimate that the stream will come back, but it will take at least two to three years. The uppermost section above the O.W. Ranch still fishes pretty darn well. It has a rainbow trout hatchery for put-and-take fishing.
Only 2.5 hours from Phoenix and Scottsdale, Canyon Creek is a good day trip from the big city. The creek flows through some of the prettiest wildlife country in the state. Types of Fish: Brown trout in the lower river, if it recovers, stocked rainbow and some brown trout in the baitfishing area. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use."
