This day is filled with arts and crafts and great shopping. It’s not recommended for non-shoppers, but anyone with even a passing interest in local art and native culture will find it very enjoyable. Tubac is a center of arts and crafts for southern Arizona, touted as the place where “art and history meet.” For once, hype is not far from the truth, for Tubac is a unique artistic community. This is Old Mexico, with bullfights, fiestas, and streets lined with small shops. The only and best reason to go to Sasabe is to visit the historic Rancho de la Osa. The ranch dates back to 1730. The sixteen-room guest ranch has been refurbished with Mexican antiques and wonderfully eclectic art. The old adobe ranch has been reborn into a gourmet Southwest experience. Rooms have private entrances and wood-burning fireplaces. This chapter from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Tucson. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping.
