A moderate but rewarding day hike to a lookout. The rocky unmaintained trail climbs fairly directly to the abandoned fire lookout at 6,249 feet. From there, you have wonderful views of the surrounding countryside: Sycamore Canyon to the southwest, Pena Blanc Lake to the east, and Nogales to the southeast. Way off to the west are the distinctive hump of Baboquivari Peak and the telescopes crowning Kitt Peak. For an even higher perspective, you can make your way north 0.75 mile to the summit of Atascosa Peak, which is about 200 feet higher than the lookout.
